Combining personal stories with rigorous research, Kendzior reveals how race has been used to justify everything from slavery to mass incarceration, from colonialism to white supremacy. She shows how the legacy of racism continues to haunt us today, in the form of racial profiling, police brutality, and the widening wealth gap between white and Black Americans.
But Kendzior does not simply dwell on the problem of racism. She also offers a way forward. She argues that the only way to truly repair the damage that race has done is to confront it head-on, and to work together to create a more just and equitable society. She provides practical tools and strategies for how we can do this, from challenging our own biases to supporting anti-racist organizations.
How Race Broke My Family and the World is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the true nature of racism, and who is committed to fighting for a more just and equitable future for all.
