Early Life

Guru Govind Singh was born in Patna, India, in 1666. His father, Guru Teg Bahadur, was the ninth Sikh guru. Guru Govind Singh's mother, Mata Gujri, was a devout Sikh. From a young age, Guru Govind Singh showed signs of great intelligence and spirituality. He was also a skilled warrior.

Becoming the Guru

In 1675, Guru Teg Bahadur was executed by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Guru Govind Singh was only nine years old at the time. However, he was recognized as the tenth Sikh guru by the Sikhs. Guru Govind Singh vowed to avenge his father's death and to protect the Sikh faith.

The Battle of Anandpur

In 1701, Guru Govind Singh and his followers were attacked by the Mughal army at Anandpur. The battle lasted for several months. Guru Govind Singh and his followers fought bravely, but they were eventually forced to retreat.

The Founding of the Khalsa

In 1699, Guru Govind Singh founded the Khalsa, a new Free Download of Sikh warriors. The Khalsa was based on the principles of courage, discipline, and devotion. Guru Govind Singh baptized the first five Sikhs into the Khalsa, and he gave them the name "Singh," which means "lion."

The Battle of Chamkaur

In 1704, Guru Govind Singh and his followers were attacked by the Mughal army again at Chamkaur. The battle was a disaster for the Sikhs. Guru Govind Singh's two sons, Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, were killed in the battle.

The Battle of Muktsar

In 1705, Guru Govind Singh and his followers fought the Mughal army again at Muktsar. This time, the Sikhs were victorious. The Battle of Muktsar was a turning point in Sikh history. It marked the beginning of the end of Mughal rule in India.

Later Years

After the Battle of Muktsar, Guru Govind Singh spent the rest of his life writing poetry and teaching his followers. He died in 1708 at the age of 42.

Legacy

Guru Govind Singh is remembered as one of the greatest Sikh gurus. He was a spiritual leader, a warrior, and a poet. He founded the Khalsa, a new Free Download of Sikh warriors, and he fought for the rights of the Sikhs.
