This guide will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to set up and manage your QNAP NAS. We will cover everything from unboxing your NAS and installing the operating system to creating shared folders and managing users.

Unboxing Your QNAP NAS

When you unbox your QNAP NAS, you will find the following items:

  • QNAP NAS unit
  • Power adapter
  • Ethernet cable
  • Quick start guide

Before you begin setting up your NAS, please read the quick start guide carefully.

Installing the Operating System

The first step in setting up your QNAP NAS is to install the operating system. The operating system is called QTS (QNAP Turbo System). You can download QTS from the QNAP website.

To install QTS, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your QNAP NAS to your network using the Ethernet cable.
  2. Turn on your QNAP NAS.
  3. Go to the QNAP website and download QTS.
  4. Extract the QTS file to a USB drive.
  5. Insert the USB drive into your QNAP NAS.
  6. Go to the QNAP NAS web interface and click on the "Install" tab.
  7. Select the QTS file from the USB drive.
  8. Click on the "Install" button.

The installation process will take a few minutes. Once the installation is complete, your QNAP NAS will reboot.

Creating Shared Folders

Once you have installed the operating system, you can begin creating shared folders. Shared folders are used to store data that can be accessed by multiple users.

To create a shared folder, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the QNAP NAS web interface.
  2. Click on the "Storage Manager" tab.
  3. Click on the "Shared Folders" tab.
  4. Click on the "Create" button.
  5. Enter a name for the shared folder.
  6. Select the type of access that you want to grant to users.
  7. Click on the "Create" button.

You can now add files to the shared folder by dragging and dropping them from your computer.

Managing Users

You can create users to give them access to your QNAP NAS. Users can be assigned different levels of access, such as read-only access or full access.

To create a user, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the QNAP NAS web interface.
  2. Click on the "Access Control" tab.
  3. Click on the "Users" tab.
  4. Click on the "Create" button.
  5. Enter a username and password for the user.
  6. Select the level of access that you want to grant to the user.
  7. Click on the "Create" button.

You can now give the user access to shared folders by adding them to the shared folder's access list.

This guide has provided you with step-by-step instructions on how to set up and manage your QNAP NAS. By following these instructions, you can easily create shared folders, manage users, and access your data from anywhere in the world.

If you have any questions, please consult the QNAP NAS user manual or visit the QNAP website.
