The Republic of Vietnam (RVN),also known as South Vietnam, was a country that existed from 1955 to 1975. It was the southern half of Vietnam, which had been divided into two countries after the First Indochina War.
The RVN was a US ally during the Vietnam War, which lasted from 1955 to 1975. The war was fought between the RVN and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV),also known as North Vietnam. The DRV was supported by the Soviet Union and China.
The Vietnam War was a long and bloody conflict. It resulted in the deaths of millions of people, both Vietnamese and American. The war ended in 1975 with the fall of Saigon, the capital of the RVN. The DRV then reunified Vietnam under communist rule.
